CBD (short for Cannabidiol) is a compound naturally found in industrial hemp as well as most cannabis plants. CBD is extracted from industrial hemp using non-toxic methods and infused it into CBD edibles to keep people cool and relaxed throughout the day.
The FDA has not approved CBD as a treatment for any of those conditions. However, it HAS approved a CBD based drug called Epidiolex for the treatment of seizures in persons suffering from two specific forms of epilepsy. This may open the door for future consideration of CBD as having potential medicinal uses.
Not all people who consume CBD do so for medical reasons. CBD seems to have a calming effect on most people who use it. And CBD reacts to the same receptors in the body as marijuana does, modulating and regulating the effects of THC. So people who tend to get anxious or paranoid when they consume too much marijuana, especially sativa, can “come down” quickly with a bit of CBD
Is It Organic?
Okay, technically only products that have been certified organic by the USDA can legally be called organic in advertising. And since industrial hemp currently lives in such a federal legal grey area, there are no mechanisms in place to inspect or accredit it. Despite the various claims found all over the internet, nobody in the U.S. sells “organic CBD.”
Having said that, our hemp is grown with sustainable ethics using the same standards and practices the USDA uses to certify organic produce. Our CBD products contain no artificial chemicals like fertilizers, fungicides or pesticides, and they are grown with conservation of biodiversity and protection of natural resources in mind.
Is CBD The Same As Marijuana?
No. CBD is also found in cannabis, but CBD stands alone as an independent molecule. Kind of like how your car contains gas, but the vehicle isn’t made of petrol.
Although the two are very similar on the genetic level, CBD is derived from legal hemp genetics that contain almost no THC. Cannabis contains ample amounts of a compound known as THC (tetrahydrocannabinol,) which is responsible for the recreational “high,” euphoria, and medical pain relief enjoyed by medical marijuana patients. Hemp contains negligible amounts of this chemical (less than .3%), so you won’t even notice any effects from it. However, it contains large amounts of CBD, which can be extracted for use in our products.
